Description:
Beginnings- Cigarette cards with collectible designs and pictures usually in series, were introduced in the 1870s as a marketing device. Coupons redeemable for trinkets advertised with tobacco packets and through catalogues were another major marketing device. On display are some cigarette cards and silk miniature rugs from early in the century, cards featuring Henry dating from the 1930s from Tareyton and Raleigh (Brown & Williamson) coupopns probably from the 1960s. Brown and Williamson is the onyl major cigarette manufacturer which continues an unbroken tradition of coupons with some of its brands.
